Tamale

THE CAPITAL TOWN OF NORTHERN REGION
The people of Tamale speak Dagbanli. The Dagbon kingdom is the oldest kingdom in modern Ghana and has its seat of paramouncy in Yendi. The king of the Dagbamba is called the Ya-Naa (meaning the king of power) and his official representative in Tamale is called the Gulpke-Naa. Tamale (and dagbong) is known for its rich culture and traditions and until the deregulation of the economy of Ghana, it served as the food basket of the country.
